Why Public Education Does Not Work

(Otherwise known as the results of 150+ years of disobedience)

- Fifteen percent of recent graduates of urban high schools read at less than sixth grade level. One million teenage children cannot read above the third grade level. (LINK)

- Dept. of Health & Human Services reported in 2004 that Suicide is the third leading cause of death among youths and young adults

- According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, 93 percent of all teenagers have some experience with alcohol…Almost two-thirds of all American young people try illicit drugs before they finish high school. (Probe Ministries)

- "Every day, 8,000 teenagers in the United States become infected by a sexually transmitted disease. This year, nearly 3 million teens will become infected.." (The Heritage Foundation)

- According to one recent study “researchers say between 70 to 88 percent of Christian teens From Christian families are leaving the church by their second year in college”(LINK)

- A recent study done by George Barna found that 85% of teens who professed to be "born again" do not believe in the existence of absolute truth. (Barna)

-"For Christians the relevant question is, 'Will your children be Christians.' Unless parents and pastors decide to change their priorities, the data from Barna and others demonstrate that the answer is clearly "no" for 90 percent or more of Christian parents. Do you care?" (Bruce Shortt)

- In 2005 Christian Smith and his research team at the University of North Carolina conducted the largest study of teen religion to date. "Rather more subtly, Christianity is either degenerating into a pathetic version of itself or, more significantly, Christianity is actively being colonized and displaced by a quite different religious faith [called] "Moralistic Therapeutic Deism."

-“ [The researchers] have performed an enormous service for the church of the Lord Jesus Christ in identifying Moralistic Therapeutic Deism as the dominant religion of this American age.”- Albert Mohler

-“Over 90% of youth from Christian homes are now scoring in the Secular Humanism worldview category…With over 90% of Christian youth holding to Secular Humanism views rather than to Biblical Theism views, the future of the church in America appears troubling.” (Nehemiah Institute)

-"Without question, the lion's share of converting and witnessing is accomplished through the public education curriculum, peer pressure from other children -- most of whom are non-Christian -- and educators who implant (either subtly or obviously and conscientiously or unconscientiously) their humanistic, neo-pagan or new age doctrines within the minds and hearts of Christian children. These children, I might add, are a captive audience with little or no chance to speak up or opportunity to rebut their teachers." (E. Ray Moore founder of Exodus Mandate)

-Whereas, Sending thousands of PCA [Christian] children as "missionaries" to their unbelieving teachers and classmates has failed to contribute to increasing holiness in the public schools. On the contrary, the Nehemiah Institute documents growing evidence that the public schools are successfully converting covenant children to secular humanism, and Whereas, We are squandering a great opportunity to instruct these children in the truth of God's word and its application to all of life..." -According to a new Manhattan Institute for Policy Research study funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, only 32 percent of recent high school graduates were qualified to attend a four-year college. In addition, the report showed that the high school graduation rate remains depressingly low at only 70 percent.- Hans Zeiger (2004)

United States consistently ranks near the bottom among industrialized nations in Math and Science. “The International Math & Science Study reported U.S. 12th graders were out-performed by 90% of other nations in math and 76% in science. In advanced math the US was out performed by 94% and in science by 100% of other nations. What is worse is that our students fall further behind those from other nations the longer ours are in school.”-LINK
“As a rule, the children of godly parents are godly. In cases where this is not the case there is a reason. I have carefully observed and have detected the absence of family prayer, gross inconsistency, harshness, indulgence or neglect of admonition. If trained in God’s way they do not depart from them.”- C. H. Spurgeon

Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth? (Galatians 4:16)

“The modern Sunday School movement began in 1780 by reaching unchurched children. The movement was outside the official ministry of the church, although its efforts were evangelistic and admirable. However, the Sunday School concept has been embraced by many churches…[and Believers] In adopting a Sunday School program for their own children…  [The Church has] blurred the biblical distinction between the children of  unbelievers and the children of believers(Donald Van Dyken)

The being of God may be apprehended, but cannot be comprehended. Finite understandings cannot perfectly know an infinite being. (Matthew Henry)

Why is it today that millions of Christian parents send their children to a roughly 150 year old secular institution of Public Schools, where today the truth and the reality of God is not only being suppressed but exchanged for a lie? The word “suppress” may seem like a strong word, but when Paul wrote this about two thousand years ago, he used the Greek word “Katecho” which means “to hold back, detain, to restrain, hinder.” In order for an institution to “suppress” or “hold back," then that which they are holding back must be exerting force in return (i.e. God’s natural revelation to Mankind). The Public Schools of today actually need to “hold back, detain, restrain, hinder” this Truth of God from being revealed. Not only that, they are exchanging it for a lie--i.e., evolution. The “high priests of humanism” may spout off, saying that all they are trying to do is give children a “neutral education,” but removing God from education is like removing oxygen from our atmosphere. Although our atmosphere is comprised of only 1/5 oxygen, all life on earth as we know it hinges upon that 20%. Any rookie scientist would tell you that if we lost this oxygen in the atmosphere, it would only lead to death for all living creatures.

What has been the result of removing God from Public Schools in the name of a “neutral” education?

Death mentally. We see American children by the millions being dumbed down by a bureaucratic, gargantuan, multi-billion-dollar-a-year secular humanist monster which is fed annually by millions of taxpayers.  The “high priests” of the humanistic institutions know this, and it is becoming more clear to those in the know that a college diploma today is equivalent to what a high school diploma was 40 or so years ago. The children are reading literature which has been dumbed down and, for the most part, is imposing certain unbiblical views of the world. Compare that with what children were reading 150 years ago. High school graduates and most college graduates of today couldn’t even hang with 19th Century 5th graders  and what they once read.  One of the gauges for how well we are doing in educating the next generation is how literate we are as society. It is not looking good, folks. The statistics are eye opening. Read them for yourselves:

Death physically. As we see school violence on the rise, keeping in mind that school shootings were virtually non-existent 25 or so years ago. Violence does not just mean guns and knives, but includes fist-fights, sexual abuse, and bullying, to name a few more categories.  Anyone doing a quick web search on those categories will quickly see that there has been an enormous amount of revealing research done on the above listed topics. I found this one in about 30 seconds.

Death spiritually. This one is the most obvious of the three, but the one that most Christians quickly make like an ostrich about. Around the world the Holy Spirit is pulling Christians heads out of the sand as eyes are opening to the truths of the Bible. Like all great movements and reformations in years past, it begins with God’s Word cutting into the believer’s soul (Heb. 4:12). Parents—not the Church, not the Public schools, not the Youth Group, but parents—have been given the responsibility to not only raise their children but teach their children. It was said of  Martin Luther that he would train the parents in the Word and then tell the parents to go home and teach their children what he just taught them. In referring to matters directly about God, the Bible uses analogies such as Life, Light and Love, but when contrasting matters that are Anti-God or Godless, the analogies used are Death (Deut. 30:15-20), Darkness (John 1:5) and Hate (John 15: 18-23). When given a quick glance, Public schools may seem like they are “neutral,” but they are, in reality, void of God and His Truths. Voids in one’s education are an ample opportunity for humanists to come fill it with something of their choosing.  Our Lord clearly wants us to choose life, to walk in His light as we learn to love one another, and that all begins at home in the family—where the Light can shine, His love is shared, and His life is lived out. Like oxygen, our children need to breathe Him in on a daily basis, untainted and unpolluted.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live… (Deut. 30:19)

Quotes to think about....

"Unless I am convinced by the testimonies of the Holy Scriptures or evident reason ... I am bound by the Scriptures that I have adduced, and my conscience has been taken captive by the Word of God - Luther

Too many parents who would never send their children to a church on Sunday that taught doctrines they believed to be wrong have had no problem placing them in state schools five days a week where they are taught conflicting doctrines and ideas.

–Cal Thomas

What about the rights of parents? Judge Reinhardt, citing a precedent from the First Circuit, simply declared that "once parents make the choice as to which [public] school their children will attend, their fundamental right to control the education of their children is, at the least, substantially diminished."
Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (11-05)

“...at public schools only about 50 percent of the personnel are actual teachers -- most of the rest are cogs in the endless layers of machinery of the "education" bureaucracy. This would be like having 26 full-time coaches for a 26-man baseball team." -- Anne Coulter (Godless P.152)

"I am much afraid that schools will prove to be the great gates of hell unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures, engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the Scriptures do not reign paramount." - Luther

“You don't put baby tomato plants in the hot sun; you keep them in a greenhouse until they have roots.”-Mark Glaser

“Education is thus a most powerful ally of Humanism, and every American public school is a school of Humanism. What can the theistic Sunday-school, meeting for an hour once a week, and teaching only a fraction of the children, do to stem the tide of a five-day program of humanistic teaching” ---Charles Potter

“I am convinced that the battle for humankind’s future must be waged and won in the public school classrooms by teachers who correctly perceive their role as proselytizers of a new religion …  These teachers must embody the same selfless dedication as the most rabid fundamentalist preachers.  The classroom must and will become and arena of conflict between the old and the new – the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with all its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism…”- John Dunphy

"Every child in America entering school at the age of five is mentally ill because he comes to school with certain allegiances to our founding fathers, toward our elected officials, toward his parents, toward a belief in a supernatural being, and toward the sovereignty of this nation as a separate entity. It is up to you as teachers to make all of these sick children well -- by creating the international child of the future."-- Dr. Chester M. Pierce, Professor of Education at Harvard (1972)

“It's everybody else but your own child, that's the denial part of it.” -Kierstin (a mom interviewed on MSNBC)

“Education without values... seems rather to a make man a more clever devil.”  - C.S. Lewis

"The NEA is probably the most intellectually dishonest organization in America. It is part union, part professional organization, and part political party. Its object is to control Congress, the fifty state legislatures, the Democratic Party, the curriculum of the schools, public and private, and the entire teaching profession. Its interest in academics is subordinate to its radical political and social ends."- Samuel Blumenfeld, NEA, Trojan Horse In American Education
